  • How to use theatrical improv in your writing to create authentic-sounding dialogue, develop realistic characters, and bust through writer's block.
  • Fun improv games and exercises help you let intuition guide your writing choices.
  • Students will be given a writing assignment on the first Saturday. Submissions will discussed in detail, and will inform the basis of the games and exercises for the concluding week.

How to use theatrical improv in your audio drama writing to create authentic-sounding dialogue, develop realistic characters, and bust through writer's block.

This is the place to start. If you’re a writer not named Stephen (King or Fry), chances are you’ve been blocked at some point. This workshop is packed full of fun improv games and writing sprints to help you open up. You’ll learn how to:

  • generate ideas using easy-to-learn techniques
  • respond authentically to what you have written to move the story forward
  • remove judgement that keeps you stuck
  • have fun with your writing (even serious writing)
  • get out of your own way

The class is broken down into five segments, each featuring a game and a writing prompt. We wrap up with a recap and discussion. Participants are asked to bring a piece of writing they feel stuck on.
